End of zoom lenses …

Forest

You might be thinking what does the title mean … like the end of zoom lenses for everyone, what? Well … no. It does mean, that from my point of view, I can’t see more advantages when using zoom lenses compared to fixed lenses. Just to prevent your angry comment, I’m talking about my style of photoshooting. My usual style is nature, architecture and mostly, our little one :-)

Just some food

So, when I’ve bought the fixed ones for an awesome price in Olympus shop, it drastically changed the view about my photoshooting style. Completely. The lenses I’ve got are Zuiko 17mm f/2.8 and exquisite Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 lens. I also have the zoom lenses Zuiko 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 and Zuiko 40-150mm f/4-5.6. Those are really cool for the price but! The size. Yes, the size. You might admit and probably you are right, that OM-D M5 is small and even with these zoom lenses is not comparable to the classic DSLR. But I want more – I love to have the camera in my pocket. And I love to quickly change the lens in the case I need to. I don’t want to have loads of stuff in my bag. That was the idea I’ve had in my head when I bought those two fixed lenses.

Way to office

What I didn’t know … was how much it has changed the way I think about the photos and how to capture them. Both lenses has really nice aperture (2.8, resp. 1.8) and that allows you to shoot in the conditions that the zoom lenses can not. And, except in some rare conditions, you can always do some steps forward or backward. The important thing – you will change the way how you think about the photos. How to frame them, what angle you choose .. just simply because you can’t zoom. You won’t believe how much the ratio between the waste pictures and usable pictures will change. And also without the attached zoom lense I can carry the camera in my pocket and pretty much shoot everywhere.

So don’t worry that your lense doesn’t have the zoom range like ultrazooms … you don’t need it.
